I wouldn't even drink skimmed milk, is it not more for dieters, why not go for semi skimmed at least then there's a bit of goodness, I myself still give my 4 (nearly 5) year old full fat milk as its good for him its not a bad fat like chocolate and fatty fried foods contain, can't get over some answers on here, to give your child skimmed milk, the answer above me is great!
References :
The melatonin levels vary Morning milking/ Evening milking and also when the cow started lactating after calving. Also which breed of cow, so very complex answer.
A farmer in Ireland started milking his cows at a different time to increase the levels of Melatonin.
A glass of warm milk before bed wont make much difference calorie wise.
References :
occasionally it is fine, but growing children still neeed the fats found in milk products. In fact the fat in milk helps the body to absorb both the calcium and vitamins A and D in milk too. There is essentially no fat in skim milk, so it's not a good option for kids ( some would argue it's not a good idea for anybody!) If you are worried about the fat thing , I would stick with 2 % , but my family drinks whole milk - my 3 yr old son, husband and me too!

Add. Marlene needs to do some more reading on the subject...

FYI -http://www.westonaprice.org/Low-Fat-Milk-Causes-Weight-Gain-Full-Fat-Milk-Does-Not.html

from this link :
Farmers have known for decades that pigs fed whole milk stay lean and do not get fat; but pigs fed skimmed milk gain weight easily. Now we have scientific confirmation that this seeming paradox holds true for humans as well. The great increase in childhood obesity in this country has occurred during the period when parents have been counseled to give their children reduced-fat milk, and when schools have encouraged the consumption of skim and low-fat milk instead of whole milk. With the new Child Nutrition Act, signed last June by President Bush, schools receiving federal school lunch funding are no longer even required to offer whole milk.

Butterfat in whole milk, particularly butterfat in milk from cows that graze outside on green pasture, provides unique nutrients that support thyroid function and help the body put on muscle rather than fat.

etc. etc.

please do at least SOME research people, before spouting crappy answers....
References :
mom of 2

Yes, whole milk is up to age 2 after that you go to lowfat or no fat milk so skim milk is the right one. WIC won't even offer whole milk as an option now for children over the age of 2 because it isn't recommended.
