There are no health problems or anything, just a question!

occasionally it is fine, but growing children still neeed the fats found in milk products. In fact the fat in milk helps the body to absorb both the calcium and vitamins A and D in milk too. There is essentially no fat in skim milk, so it’s not a good option for kids ( some would argue it’s not a good idea for anybody!) If you are worried about the fat thing , I would stick with 2 % , but my family drinks whole milk – my 3 yr old son, husband and me too!

Add. Marlene needs to do some more reading on the subject…

FYI -http://www.westonaprice.org/Low-Fat-Milk-Causes-Weight-Gain-Full-Fat-Milk-Does-Not.html

from this link :
Farmers have known for decades that pigs fed whole milk stay lean and do not get fat; but pigs fed skimmed milk gain weight easily. Now we have scientific confirmation that this seeming paradox holds true for humans as well. The great increase in childhood obesity in this country has occurred during the period when parents have been counseled to give their children reduced-fat milk, and when schools have encouraged the consumption of skim and low-fat milk instead of whole milk. With the new Child Nutrition Act, signed last June by President Bush, schools receiving federal school lunch funding are no longer even required to offer whole milk.

Butterfat in whole milk, particularly butterfat in milk from cows that graze outside on green pasture, provides unique nutrients that support thyroid function and help the body put on muscle rather than fat.

etc. etc.

please do at least SOME research people, before spouting crappy answers….

You fled the scene of an accident, which is a crime.

You might be safe from paying for scratches, but if anyone saw you do it, you can be arrested and charged.

Good job.

ok i P.V.A’ed it first then skimmed it let it dry and painted it all good. 5 days later 1week from skimming i heard a crack and a lump of it fell off. The rest came off easily any ideas why? what can i do to stop it from happening again?

Knock off all the high ridges and stipples of the artex with a scraper or trowel.
Make sure you mix the PVA correctly then brush on.
Skim with Gypsum Multifinish plaster whilst the PVA is still ‘tacky’.

However, the best solution is to ‘double-board’ the ceiling with another layer of 12.5mm plasterboard screwed into the ceiling joists through the old ceiling.
This way you are skimming on a new plasterboard surface, You can use the Board-Finish plaster( much better finish than Multifinish!).
Also you improve the fire rating of the room by an extra 30minutes and it improves the sound proofing of the room.

The finished ceiling is perfect and there are no unsightly ‘artex bumps’ in the finish which even the best plasterers end up with when skimming over old artex.

What do they do with the fat that’s skimmed off it?
Note to Buster.
No actually I don’t drink skimmed milk, and it’s beside the point even if I did. This was a genuine question, I did not expect a lecture about ‘economics’ from someone with an axe to grind.

You buy it by the amount that is processed so in theory it should be dearer due to the extra processes required to remove a percentage of the ‘fats’
Logically full fat should be the cheapest with skimmed the dearest. The fats are used in animal feeds.
