What is the name of the Star Wars book where Luke succumbs to the dark side?

November 72009

I’ve been reading a lot of the Star Wars Novels, recently. I started with the "Thrawn-C’baoth Trilogy," went as Far as Visions of the Future, and jumped back with the Hutt Gambit. When I was reading the Jedi Academy Triolgy, I was surprised to learn Luke had served Palpatine’s Clone, going to the Dark Side (for one book?)

What I want to know is what is the name of the book(s)? I skim through the backs of those that tell about other books, but have been unable to find anything about this. Can some one help me?
there was a clone, called "luuke," but that was not where Luke himself succumbed to the dark side. it appears that it didn’t occur in the novels, but rather in a series of comics; Dark Empire…can anyone confirm if this is what was being referred to in jedi academy triology?

Yes, I can confirm this for you. Luke turned to the dark side when the reborn (Cloned, I believe) Emperor appeared. Luke went over to the dark side believing he’d be able to come back after he used that position to defeat the new Palpatine, however he was wrong. It was through the love of Leia that he was brought back to the light and defeated the reborn Emperor. This all took place in a 1991-1992 series of Dark Horse comics, called "Star Wars: Dark Empire". You can research this much more thoroughly at the most disgustingly complete encyclopedia ever: The Completely Unofficial Star Wars Encyclopedia. See the link below…

I saw a book about runes in Barnes and Noble?

November 52009

The book was called "Discovering Runes" and I skimmed through it and it said that runes aren’t an actual language but more of replacements for letters, and when read it will sound the same….. That the only difference is appearance and a 24 instead of 26 letter alphabet, and that scores of languages use them, where would I be able to get a translation of runes? Simply something showing which rune goes with which letter? And did this make any sense at all?

How much of the Wall Street Journal do people usually read?

November 22009

I’m a college student and I subscribe to the Wall Street Journal. I know a lot of business and wall street workers subscribe to this as well…I’m just wondering, do they have time to read the whole or even most of the paper? I find that I usually only skim through the headlines and front pages of each section. It takes a while to read, and I’m just wondering if people usually read most of it or just skim through it like I do.

very few folks read it cover to cover most skim it and really read the articles that catch there eyes!!!

♥POLL: How often do you read through your previously asked Questions and think, "Wow. that was really dumb?"

October 312009

….. I’ve done that a few times as i am skimming through older Q’s that need to be resolved. There were a few that i noticed that made me think, "Girl … what the frig were you on when you asked that?" LmAo.

Have you ever done this?

Lol.
Yeah.
I did that yesterday.
I was like, I don’t even remember these questions.

What are the best excersises a woman can do to sculpt her back?

October 292009

I’m starting to get back into fitness. I enjoy working out. I sometimes skim through magazines like Self to get exercise tips but I find that most of the time the moves are focused on toning your abs, butt, and legs. Only once did I see an exercise focused on the back but it requires that you do it on this specific piece of gym equipment. I don’t belong to a gym and I don’t have one at home. I want to build muscle in and/ tone my upper back but my main problem area is my lower back. That’s the area I’m interested in the most. Does anyone have any tried and true techniques they can offer/recommend?

Note: I don’t mind lifting weights

The lower back tends to store a larger percentage of body fat than the upper back. So for the most part, people feel they have to "spot tone" their lower back when in actuality and loss of body fat will do wonders for this area. Besides extensions, there is very little you can do to "tone" this area which naturally develops on its own through the course of most weight training regimens. You don’t need fancy equipment or machinery and you don’t even need to be a member of a gym.

You can do most of the following with an inexpensive sets of dumbells or elastic resistance which are both very affordable. Here’s a great list of back exercises:

If you are a beginner, I would highly recommend you receive at least some basic guidance from a professional before attempting any of the above.

How can I teach myself to read more difficult books?

October 272009

I have this collection of classic books like Pride and Prejudice, Sense and Sensibility, Wuthering Heights, Jane Eyre, etc.

I tried to read them, but it takes too long to read because I try to understand it instead of just skim through it. It’s challenging, how can I teach myself to read these books with more ease and less difficulty?

Whenever I have a book I just cannot get into, I look to see if there’s a movie available and watch it. I found that especially helpful with Shakespeare, because those stories were intended to be viewed as plays rather than read. Hamlet made a whole lot more sense to me that way!

After watching the movie, I’ll go back and read the book again. Not only will I discover parts of the story that were left out of the movie, but I’ll also pick up pronunciations and (close to) proper accents.

Hope that helps!!

Is there an online website where my kids can take an AR test from home?

October 202009

Since it is Summer, I am having my kids take out books from the library but since they are reading long chapter books now (not short ones that I can skim through and test them), I was wondering if there was a website where I can have them choose from a list of books where they can read then take an AR test. Does anyone know?

http://bookadventure.com/

Book Adventure is a FREE reading motivation program for children in grades K-8. Children create their own book lists from over 7,000 recommended titles, take multiple choice quizzes on the books they’ve read, and earn points and prizes for their literary successes. Book Adventure was created by and is maintained by Sylvan Learning.
(Preceding copied from Bookadventure site.)
This is the closest thing to AR type testing for reading that you don’t have to pay for. You may have to select books from a higher grade level if your student is advanced.

I was just skimming through questions and have been informed that I have lost ten points.WHY?
