You might have to add a tablespoon of melted butter since most recipes are designed to use whole milk.

I noticed I’m getting a lot of vitamin D with my skim milk powders, (60% daily value) and 80% daily value with my multivitamin..

Which leads me to my question – should I be taking the multivitamin if I’m eating properly? Maybe I could cut it in half and only get about half as much?

i would keep taking it. the recommended amts. are not for people in training, they are for average body under normal conditions. your body should shed any excess.

My daughter is 6 months old. My dr thinks she has a cow’s milk protein allergy. She’s on nutramigen formula. I tried her on regular formula and she threw up violently for 3 hours and went pale and got really sleepy. so he thinks it’s cows milk protein allergy.
my question is….i’d like to try her on those baby mum mums rice cookie things. I looked up the ingredients and it’s got skim milk powder in them.
Do you think it would give her a reaction? i’m not sure how much is it 1 cookie thing, i wasn’t sure if she’d have a reaction or not. I know that i wont know until i give it to her and see…but i thought i’d get some opinions first and see what others thought.
your answers are much appreciated.
Thanks! : )

My second daughter had a severe milk allergy from birth to age nine. Finding things were her was always difficult. Here are some finger foods that she ate early on:

Plain toast (Check the bread for ingredients too)
Zweiback baby toast
Cheerios
Puffed Rice Cereal
Plain bagels toasted

Then closer to ten months she had little bits of meat, fruit, veges, pasta all cut up very small. We had to check every label every time I went shopping because companies changed ingredients sometimes. When she got older I found these soy dairy free frozen deserts that her and I both loved from Tofutti Brand. Milk can hide itself disguised as many words such as:
artificial butter flavor
butter, butter fat
casein
caseinates (ammonium, calcium, magnesium, potassium, sodium)
cheese, cottage cheese, curds
cream
custard, pudding
ghee
Half and Half™
hydrolysates (casein, milk protein, protein, whey, whey protein)
lactalbumin, lactalbumin phosphate
lactoglobulin
lactose
milk (derivative, protein, solids, malted, condensed, evaporated, dry, whole, lowfat, nonfat, skim)
nougat
rennet casein
sour cream
sour cream solids
whey (delactosed, demineralized, protein concentrate)
yogurt

My daughter’s allergy was severe. Having a couple bites of pudding when she was two sent us to the ER with the beginning of anaphalactic shock. The doctors told us that if we waited a couple more minutes or she had a couple more bites she would have most likely died. She used to get hives, rashes, asthma/breathing problems, cold-like symptoms, watery eyes, runny nose, diarrhea, vomitting, and belly aches from her exposure. Her hives were scary because they looked like masquito bites, but got bigger than half dollars. Finally when she was nine years old we went for RAST blood tests and a skin prick test which showed she was no longer allergic. Yeay! She was so happy to be able to eat what other kids eat at parties and at school.

Looking for a tasty and simple yogurt recipe using whole milk? skim milk? powdered milk? Which is best?

You can make almost any kind of yogurt, and you can even use chocolate milk!!
If you have a thermometer, you can make it at home without a yogurt maker. simply heat the milk to 112 degrees, then add your cultured plain yogurt to it, ( 2 tsp.plain yogurt / 2 cups milk ) AFTER you allow the milk to go back to room temp before cooling in the refrigerator. After 24 hrs, you have yogurt!!
Add about 1/4 t. vanilla for a creamier taste.
Fruits, etc. may be added after room temp is back. ( 68 to 70 F )

I heard that there is a lot of candy with full cream milk powder and skim milk powder, which could be tainted with melamine poisoning. Also Halloween is coming up and I do not want my kids and the tricker treaters to be poisoned because I didn’t buy the right candy and I didn’t check for a list of the good candy. Is there anyway you could give me a list?

I am not too sure. I live in Canada, and I know if I visit the food inspection website it lists for recalls. I know a lot of dollar store candy and chocolate was affected. Try visiting candy maker websites to see any recalls or allergy listings.
